Partnership between Center Parcs and Sprinx resulted in enormous savings on energy consumption

23-03-2016 | In 2013, Center Parcs started a partnership with Sprinx to save energy in the kitchen ventilation system of its holiday villages. Center Parcs aims to reduce the energy consumption of its villages by 10% in 2020, compared to the consumption in 2010. The results show that the Cheetah Energy Control of Sprinx contributes to this objective substantially. Recently, 13 Center Parcs villages in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany have been implemented with Cheetah. In January, Sprinx started the installation of 16 systems in the four villages in France. The fifth and newest village will most likely also be equipped with Cheetah in this year.

Cheetah Energy Control is one of the products that Sprinx offers and installs. The system is implemented in the kitchen ventilation system and controls the extract and supply fan speeds according to the level of cooking activity. Because of this, the system achieves average savings of 40% on heated air and 65% on electricity.

Pilot project results in commissioning remaining villages

In November 2013, Sprinx agreed to perform a pilot project in the holiday village De Kempervennen in The Netherlands. Through the installation of Cheetah, the village is now able to cut electricity and heating consumption by 260,000 kWh each year. This comes down to carbon emission reductions of over 60,000 kg on an annual basis. With these results, the investment is recovered in less than two years.

The great results have convinced Center Parcs to commission the installation in all remaining villages in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France.

Wilbert Hermans, Manager and Expert Energy at Center Parcs Europe, is enthusiastic about the system: “During the pilot project, Sprinx proved that Cheetah achieves enormous energy savings. The remaining villages have been completed by Sprinx between late 2014 and mid-2015. The achieved results of these 13 villages combined prove that, thanks to this system, Center Parcs achieves annual savings of 3.4 million kWh on energy and heating and carbon savings of 1.2 million kg. This is comparable to the amount of energy that 1,000 households consume per year! The average payback time is 2.16 years.”
